Wildlife

Udzungwa Mountains National Park is a primate hotspot, stealing the show with rare gems like the Sanje Mangabey and Iringa Red Colobus—found nowhere else on the planet. With 11 primate species swinging through its trees, it’s a heavyweight in African primate conservation. But the wildlife doesn’t stop there—elephants, buffaloes, duikers, and the sneaky leopard roam the grounds too. For bird nuts, it’s a goldmine, packing over 400 species, including unique finds like the Udzungwa forest partridge and the flashy Rufous-winged sunbird.

Hiking Trails and Waterfalls

Udzungwa Mountains National Park is a hiker’s paradise, laced with trails that snake through thick rainforests, skirt breathtaking lookouts, and lead to jaw-dropping waterfalls. The star of the show is the Sanje Waterfall Trail, guiding you through verdant woods to the towering Sanje Waterfall—crashing down nearly 170 meters, it’s one of Tanzania’s tallest and a total stunner. For those craving a tougher challenge, the haul up to Luhombero Peak, the park’s highest perch, rewards you with sweeping views of mountains and valleys that’ll make your jaw drop. These paths don’t just dish out scenery—they plunge you into the park’s wild heart, with unique critters popping up along the way.
